I called my lecturer “mummy” in front of the whole class

It was an 8am class and I had barely slept. I raised my hand to ask a question and, before I could stop myself, I said “Mummy, please can you repeat the last part?” The hall went quiet for about two seconds and then everybody burst out laughing. Even she laughed. I wanted the ground to open and swallow me.

Now my friends call me “mummy’s pet” and someone wrote it on the board before the next class. It has been a week and I still sit at the back so she doesn’t see my face. How do I get over this? Should I apologise to her or just act like it never happened?
