privacy policy
Effective 10 October 2026
The short version. No accounts: we never ask for your name, email, phone number or password. Anonymous messages and chats are stored without your IP address or device details. Off My Chest posts and comments are public; for those we keep connection records, encrypted, for 12 months, for safety and the law. We don’t sell your data, and our pages load nothing from advertising or tracking companies.
1. Who we are
NO ID (“we”, “us”) runs noid.help and decides how the information described here is used. We follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Contact: support@noid.help.
2. Making a link
We store the name you show, your link, the prompt, face and colours you pick, and a scrambled form of your private key (the key itself stays on your phone; we can’t read it). We use this to show your page and your inbox.
3. Sending anonymous messages
We store the message and the time it was sent. We do not store the sender’s IP address, name or device details. To let the inbox owner block someone without knowing who they are, your browser gets a random code, which is saved with your message only in a scrambled form that is different for every inbox, so it can’t be used to follow you from one inbox to another. Your browser also gets a private reply key, saved with the message only in scrambled form, so the owner can reply to you privately.
4. Private chats
We store the chat lines and when they were sent, so both sides can read them. A chat closes after a week without new lines, or when either side ends it.
5. Off My Chest posts and comments
Posts and comments are public and shown without names. Comments carry a label like “Anonymous 3”, based on a scrambled code that is different on every post.
Because these are public, we also keep a connection record for each post and comment: the IP address and connection port, the exact time, and details about the device and browser (such as model, operating system, browser, language, screen size and time zone). These records are encrypted, never shown to anyone on NO ID, kept for 12 months (also after the post is deleted), and used only to protect people and NO ID and to answer valid legal requests.
Your phone keeps a private key for each of your posts, so you can see their status, comment as their author and delete them. Likes, dislikes, shares and reports are counted with a scrambled code per browser, so each person counts once.
6. Notifications
Notifications are off until you turn them on. When you do, your browser gives us a notification address and keys, which we store together with what you asked to hear about (your inbox, your chats, your posts or your comments). Notifications are encrypted for your phone and only say things like “New anonymous message”, never what was written. They are delivered by the notification service built into your phone or browser (such as Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft’s). Turning notifications off deletes this information; links to chats are also removed when the chat ends or closes.
7. Visit statistics
We count visits ourselves, on NO ID, without cookies and without third-party analytics. For each visit we note the page, the country (worked out from the connection, after which only the country is kept), the type of device, system and browser, and where the visit came from (for example WhatsApp or a notification). To count unique visitors per day we use a code made from your connection and browser that changes every day and can’t be turned back into who you are. Detailed visit records are kept for 90 days; after that, only totals.
8. Ads
We don’t use advertising networks or trackers. When an ad is shown, seen or tapped, we count it anonymously in the same way as visits (with the country and type of device), so we can report totals to the advertiser. Advertisers never get information about you. Tapping an ad takes you through NO ID to the advertiser’s site, which has its own privacy policy.
9. Cookies and storage on your device
We use only the cookies NO ID needs to work. None of them is used for advertising or tracking across websites.
| Name | What it does | Kept |
|---|---|---|
| noid_sid | A random code for this browser (blocking, comment labels, one vote each) | 1 year |
| noid_own | The keys to the inboxes on this phone | 2 years |
| noid_chats | The keys to your private chats | 1 year |
| noid_confess | The keys to your Off My Chest posts | 2 years |
The page may also save a few settings on your phone, such as message sounds on or off and when to ask about notifications. Clearing your browser’s data removes all of these, including your keys, so save your keys first.
10. Who we share information with
We don’t sell or rent your information. We share it only with trusted service providers that help us run, deliver and protect NO ID (for example hosting and notification delivery), who may only use it for that; and when the law requires it, to answer a valid legal request, or to protect someone’s life or safety. Our providers may process information outside Nigeria; when they do, we take steps to keep it protected as the law requires.
11. How long we keep it
| Information | Kept |
|---|---|
| Inbox messages | Until the inbox owner deletes them |
| Chat lines | While the message they belong to exists |
| Off My Chest posts and comments | Until deleted (by you or by us) |
| Off My Chest connection records | 12 months, also after deletion |
| Notification details | Until you turn notifications off |
| Detailed visit and ad records | 90 days, then totals only |
12. Keeping it safe
Keys are stored only in scrambled form, Off My Chest connection records are encrypted, notifications are encrypted for your phone, and our pages load nothing from other companies. No system is perfect, so keep your keys private and your phone locked.
13. Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act you can ask to access, correct or delete your information, object to how it is used, or withdraw consent. Because NO ID has no accounts, we often can’t tell which information is yours. The quickest ways are built in: delete messages in your inbox, delete your Off My Chest posts, turn notifications off, and remove your keys from your phone. For anything else, write to support@noid.help; we may ask for something that proves the information is yours, such as a key. Some information must be kept for the period above even if you ask us to delete it. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
14. Children
NO ID is for people aged 13 and over; under 18s need a parent’s or guardian’s agreement. If you believe a child under 13 has used NO ID, write to us and we will remove what we can.
15. Changes
We will update this policy when what we collect or how we use it changes. The date at the top shows the latest version; if a change matters, we will say so on NO ID.
